In just over seven short weeks I will be on a plane to Ghana, following in the footsteps of a long line of amazing EWB volunteers. During my overseas junior fellowship I will be working with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) as part of their Agriculture as a Business (AAB) program. At a high level, AAB helps provide farmers with the skills and motivation to move from subsistence farming to build a business framework for their farms that can provide them with a more sustainable livelihood. I know that participating in this work will definitely be a challenge, and will drive me to think more critically, and objectively at the same time. I look forward to learning from my Ghanaian colleagues, other EWB staff and volunteers, and from all those who have contributed to development work before me.
Over the next several weeks while still in Canada, I hope to share with you more about my pre-departure learning experiences, MoFA and AAB, and of course, a little more about myself and why I have chosen to spend the rest of this year overseas.
